One Off Summer White 2014$0.00
Pale with lime and golden flashes. Lovely guava, peach, gooseberry and lime aromatics…
Depending on the day and how much sunshine there is, this wine tastes like either Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc, or Gewürztraminer…never like Albariño, but it’s always there in the background. It’s one of the most compelling and schizophrenic wines ever made.
This is a four-variety and three-vineyard story…two in Hawke’s Bay and one in Gisborne. 2014 was a great season all over the East Coast and as result, fruit was picked ripe and at exactly the right time. Harvested more on acid balance and flavour than sugar ripeness as we wanted to produce a crisp dry white with a refreshing tang.
Really simple and traditional winemaking with handpicked fruit brought into the winery and processed straight away. Juice was run to tank where it was cooled for a few days before beginning what ended up being a long, relaxed ferment. The varieties were fermented separately, aged on lees and not blended until just before bottling in spring 2014.
