While the palate is fleshy and mouth-filling with attractive fruit, the wine has a minerality and supple structure that makes it a very interesting and compelling drink.

VINEYARD

Autumn 2013 was long and dry and will be remembered as one of the great ones. Three varieties from this single organic vineyard, which is located at the base of Te Mata Peak in Havelock North, are grown to showcase the site’s best attributes. A gentle slope, complex free draining soil and a sheltered position make for ideal growing conditions. The vineyard has been producing wine since the early 2000 and usually crops at around 1.5kg per vine.

WINERY

Three varieties (Merlot, Malbec and Cabernet Franc) were hand harvested and field blended to showcase the site’s best attributes. Co-fermenting, hand plunging and hot natural ferments have produced a wine of complex, intense aromatics and flavours. The wine was aged in French oak for 16 months as a final blend allowing the oak and varieties to further integrate.
