Auchnagie was one of several small farm distilleries in the Ballinluig area of Perthshire. All have been destroyed except Edradour and Glenturret which continue to flourish to this day.

Auchnagie was founded by James Duff had a varied existence and went through numerous stages of ownership before fall into the hands of John Dewar & Son who dismantled it in 1912. When Barnard visited, Auchnagie had an output of between 19,000 and 24,000 gallons and a warehousing capacity of 40,000 gallons. The water source was the nearby Auchnagie Hills, the barley was sourced very locally and the peat came from Loch Broom.
